For the storm chasers (and
streamchasers) out there- here is
IDV's map of tornado tracks across the US using freely available information from
data.gov. Each streak connects tornado's touchdown and lift-off location (the actual tornadoes meandered around a bit more than is shown here). The brightness is how violent it was. There is also a
high resolution version.

The National Weather Service also has
plenty more visualizations of this tornado data including maps of the
tornadoes that happened in each year. It would be interesting to animate this
like has been done with paths of airplane flights.
